There is demand – there is supply. Or: is there a supply – will we generate demand? Any whim for your money …

Irina Vasilkov: is there a supply – will there be a demand?

Author: Irina Vasilkov, teacher of history and law, Lviv.

In one beautiful town in our region, the teaching environment panicked. Not because of yesterday’s protest in Kyiv, no. Due to future certification and annual 30 hours of advanced training.

Back in the summer, conscientious teachers took care of self-education, registered for webinars, paid for certificates, collecting these hours one by one. And this week they are told that everything is in vain … Certificates issued by unlicensed entities will not be credited to them.

And hey! And the money went to waste, and by the end of the year is near. And the deputy principal says that all teachers certified in 2019 and 2018 must have these cherished 30 hours credited by the end of December.

And from such a "dead end" is the "way out". Form a list so that there is a group, pay from your own teacher’s funds and get courses in a rescue institution.

And it does not matter that teachers already know these universal methods, the mastery of which is proposed as training. What a choice there can be in such a hurry! The main thing is to dial hours …

There is demand, there is supply. Or else: there is a supply – we will form demand? Any whim for your money …

Dear teachers, do not be "led" by unprofessionalism. Think critically, read the regulations yourself, do not be fooled!

Emotions and categorical conclusions often lose a balanced view of the situation

I. Vasilkov: on family and marriage in civic education

Author: Irina Vasilkov, teacher of history and law, Lviv.

About family and marriage in the context of civic education. Where does the wind of criticism blow?

The public involved in education has been actively discussing the published results of the anti-discrimination examination of textbooks for several days. Lots of emotions, hasty and categorical conclusions, which often lose a balanced view of the situation. There are many angry accusations against the authorities, the Ministry of Education and Science, both well-founded and in the style of "the square was not for that" (by the way, this slogan on some accounts is now very similar to "grandfathers fought ", but now it’s not about that). The impetus for the discussion was the proposal of experts to replace the word "parents" in the tasks in one of the textbooks for 1st grade with "relatives", as well as comments on the illustrations. There is an official point of view on such and other conclusions of anti-discrimination expertise, there are also many opinions on this issue, expressed and published, both reasoned and unfounded.

Anyone who follows the media carefully knows that behind any such high-profile campaign there is something else, from which, in fact, they divert attention. Time will tell both cause and effect. Now we can state that the Ministry of Education and Science, authors and experts get it from everywhere. The accusatory stones are flying both left and right. What some shamelessly disgrace, others evaluate as success and achievement. And it’s not just textbooks for first grade.

More than a month ago, the conclusions of the anti-discrimination examination of textbooks for 5th and 10th grades were published on the IMSO website, but so far they have not attracted anyone’s attention, except for the authors and editors. Suddenly, many "saw through" and became a specialist in education, pedagogy, psychology and expertise. And there was a wave of publications, often completely opposite in views and essence, as well as comments to them. Previously, these conclusions were discussed in a narrower, "authorial" circle, professionally and, more often, ironically.

She reviewed the conclusions from her subjects – both history, law, civic education. Inherited by all authors. The conclusions seem to be standard, because according to the criteria … The number of male and female images in the textbook projects, the number of mentioned figures and figures, "intolerant" and incorrect formulations were revealed “

Finally, you can read for yourself. Some remarks can be made, thank you for some of the shortcomings, but there is something that common sense cannot accept. The most typical: the word "nigger" – to correct! It has a discriminatory form where it has been replaced by the "politically correct" notion of "African American." And if the text is about a representative of the Negroid race, say, from Central Africa, is he African-American? It is not appropriate to call him just an African either, the inhabitants of North and South Africa look a little different. Paying attention to the context is one of the requirements of critical thinking. After the publication of these conclusions and the conclusions of the expert examination, the authors made changes, so in the final version of the textbooks many "interesting fragments" will no longer be, and therefore, to disperse the wave of "betrayal" does not make sense. And to write in the headlines "Hrynevych deletes parents from textbooks" or "Hrynevych corrupts children" is at least incorrect. She is not the author of textbooks and expert opinions.

What’s interesting. Regarding textbooks for grades 1, the wave of indignation is directed against experts. Regarding the 10th grade – against the authors. Some, however. These are the textbooks "Civic Education" for 10th grade, which were sent for additional examination. All four. According to official reports, the reason is complaints that the way the topic of the family is covered in these textbooks contradicts the current legislation. Vanguyu: re-examination will not make such a conclusion. Because there is nothing in these textbooks that would be contrary to the law, this can easily be proved by a second-year student of the law faculty. Or a conscientious high school student (high school student) (so write requires anti-discrimination examination). I imagine what a wave of popular indignation will rise. You can already throw tomatoes at me. But first read on.

1. The program of the integrated course "Civic Education" in Section 1, Topic 2 "Socialization of the individual" provides for the disclosure of the following issues: "The concept of socialization. Stages of socialization. Subjects of socialization. Socialization as a resource for the formation of civic identity. Socialization in the family. Socialization among peers. Youth subcultures. Family partnerships. Transformation of family models ".

Are there any claims to this part of the program, to its authors?

2. In relation to these issues of the topic, the program provides:

"Knowledge and understanding: to define the concepts of" family "," subculture ", to name the general features and characteristics of key concepts, to know the basic theories and successfully select examples, to understand the importance of the family for man and society , to determine the nature of youth subcultures.

Skills: to formulate and express one’s own opinion about the role of the family in the process of forming a person and a citizen

Attitudes and values: to realize the importance of the process of human socialization in society, to respect the institution of the family. "

Is there something here that causes outrage or denial?

3. Creating the text of the paragraph, the authors of all textbooks had to provide basic scientific and theoretical information on the topic, a number of examples, as well as showing the general historical development of the family in the world, its features in different cultures and eras, to form respect for family relations. … Why do I emphasize different cultures and eras? – Because it is indicated in the program "for man and society", and nowhere is it specified "in Ukraine". I think you understand that the lack of information on a particular issue of the topic would inevitably be reflected in the conclusions of the professional examination in the wording "does not correspond to the program." Otaka "kitchen".

4. And now about the legislation of our state on this question. Because our ideas about this often do not coincide with what the law literally says.

The Constitution of Ukraine (Articles 51, 52) stipulates that marriage is based on the free consent of a woman and a man. Each spouse has equal rights and responsibilities in marriage and family. The family, childhood, motherhood and fatherhood are protected by the state, and children are equal in their rights, regardless of their origin or whether they are born in or out of wedlock.

You see, the Constitution of Ukraine, the "holy of holies", to which outraged citizens appeal, separates the concepts of "family" and "marriage", prescribes the concepts of "motherhood" and "fatherhood", and even (what a horror !!!) provides for the birth of children out of wedlock. And this has been the case since 1996. And children in the 9th grade in law classes read it in textbooks. Why haven’t there been outrageous cries about the depravity and propaganda of extramarital affairs before? The Constitution deals separately with the mutual rights and responsibilities of parents and children. Note, not relatives, not relatives, but parents and children.

5. Family Code of Ukraine on Family, Marriage and Marriage:

Article 3 of the Family Code of Ukraine (as amended on February 6, 2018) provides that: “1. The family is the primary and main center of society. 2. The family consists of persons who live together, are connected by common life, have mutual rights and responsibilities. A marriage is considered a family even when the wife and husband do not live together due to education, work, treatment, the need to care for parents, children and other valid reasons. A child belongs to the family of his parents even when he does not live with them. 3. The rights of a family member have a single person. 4. A family is established on the basis of marriage, consanguinity, adoption, as well as on other grounds not prohibited by law and not contrary to the moral principles of society. "

For the legal consolidation of the status of persons who are used to being called spouses, there is a legal term "marriage", defined in Article 21 of the UWC: "1. Marriage is a family union of a woman and a man, registered in the body of state registration of civil status. 2. Living in the same family of a woman and a man without marriage is not a ground for them to have the rights and responsibilities of a spouse. 3. The religious rite of marriage is not a ground for a woman and a man to have the rights and obligations of a spouse, except in cases when the religious rite of marriage took place before the establishment or restoration of the bodies of state registration of civil status. "

Further, according to the Family Code of Ukraine: Marriage is the basis for the rights and responsibilities of the spouses. A woman and a man can be in only one marriage at a time and have the right to remarry only after the termination of the previous marriage. The wife and husband have the right to share responsibilities in the family. Wife and husband are obliged to jointly take care of building family relationships between themselves and other family members on feelings of mutual love, respect, friendship, mutual assistance.
